Coming here well
Winenet Dua is not a resort town. It is an eighty-five-hectare working village with a market, a jetty and people getting on with their day. That is exactly why it is worth stopping in.
Getting here
- From Manado
- Sam Ratulangi airport (MDC) is about 40 km away. The 39.77 km Manado–Bitung toll road brings the drive under an hour.
- Public transport
- A bus from Terminal Paal Dua in Manado to Terminal Tangkoko in Bitung, then a minibus into town. The Trayek A route ends at Pasar Winenet itself.
- Ojek & ride-hailing
- Gojek and Grab both operate in Bitung. There is also a motorcycle-taxi stand at Pasar Winenet.
- Crossing to Lembeh
- The ASDP vehicle ferry from the jetty in this village, or a small motorboat. Roughly ten to thirty minutes.

Etiquette
- Sunday morning is for worship. The churches are full and the streets are empty. Dress neatly and keep the noise down near a service.
- This is a village where the mosque and the church count roughly equal congregations. Respect both; do not treat either as the default.
- Ask before photographing people, especially market traders and fishermen at work. One question is all it takes.
- At a warung, greet before you order. ‘Mo pi mana?’ will earn you a smile.
- Bargaining is normal at the market, but keep it light. A gap that is small to you is not always small to the seller.
- If you dive, hire a local guide. They know the sites, and the money stays here.
Stop for an hour. Buy something at the market. Sit on the jetty and watch a boat leave. That is enough — and it is more than almost anyone passing through ever does.
